Here are the Students short story behind AzaadiSAT-2 - in English & தமிழ்

Image
English Tamil Sathyavani a class eleven student and who’s father is a bus conductor turned emotional as she watched SSLV lift off in front of her eyes at Satish Dhawan Space Centre’s large viewers gallery in Sriharikota on Friday. She has played a little role in the making of AzaadiSAT-2, one of the  three satellites the rocket successfully put in the orbit. She told tellmystory.in “I want to become a Space Scientist. My inspiration is  like Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams”.  In another part of the gallery, Nishat Anjom, a class VIII student from a school in Karnataka too made up her mind to pursue space science. Her father is an automobile mechanic. Nishat said “When the rocket blasted off I was inspired to launch my own satellite sometime”. The project  involving 750 girls from school across India, largely from government schools from Kashmir to Kanniyakumari began last year as part of ISRO’s (Indian Space Research Organisation) launch of SSLV (Small ...

ISRO’s SSLV-D2/EOS-07 mission successful; three satellites placed in orbits - in English & தமிழ்

English Tamil In its second developmental flight, Indian Space Research Organisation’s Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) placed three satellites, including earth observation satellite EOS-07, in intended orbits on Friday. Successful launch of SSLV D2 The success of SSLV-D2/EOS-07 mission comes after India’s smallest commercial rocket – which is 34-metre-tall and 2 metre in diameter -- failed to inject satellites into the desired orbits during its maiden flight on August 7 last year. SSLV-D2 lifted off from the first launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota at 9.18am.Around 13 minutes after lift-off, the three-stage rocket successfully placed EOS-07 in a circular orbit. ISRO Determines the cause of SSLV D1 Failure - in English & தமிழ்

Image
English Tamil February 1st, the ISRO announced that the investigation into the failed maiden flight of SSLV. They have determined that the cause of failure was an unexpectedly strong shock during second stage separation which resulted in off nominal readings from the accelerometers aboard the rocket's guidance system, thus triggered a "salvage mode" - a mode designed to mitigate loss of mission in the event of an anomaly - unfortunately the system worked in reverse. SSLV D1 Liftoff During separation of the second stage, SSLV's 6 accelerometers measured stronger and more sustained vibrations than expected - 8ms longer (expected: 2ms; reality: 10ms). This caused the accelerometers to believe they had experienced an anomaly, however, the ISRO reports they performed nominally through the remainder of the flight. Moving forward, the ISRO has outlined a number of corrective measures to move forward from the anomaly, they are as follows: Replace the second stage s...

ISRO gave training to 31 foreign engineers in Nanosatellite Building - in தமிழ் & English

Image
English Tamil The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has imparted nanosatellite assembly courses and relevant training to 31 delegates from 19 nations. Conducted by ISRO's UR Rao Satellite Centre, which is responsible for designing and developing India's satellites, the two-months long training involved lessons on general satellite technology, nanosatellite design and testing. Nanosatellites are generally regarded as those weighing less than 10 kg.  Known as UNispace Nanosatellite Assembly & Training by ISRO (UNNATI), the training programme was conducted by experts and scientists from ISRO centres such as UR Rao Satellite Centre, Space Applications Centre, ISRO Headquarters, ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) and ISRO Inertial Systems Unit. The foreign officers/trainees who attended the programme are those with academic qualifications in Mechanical and Electrical/Electronics engineering.  The 2022 edition is the third time tha...

Russia called off Spacewalk due to a Leak in International Space Station - in English & தமிழ்

Image
English Tamil Russia's space agency Roscosmos has called off a spacewalk by two cosmonauts at the International Space Station today after an apparent coolant leak on a Soyuz MS-22 crew capsule spewed coolant around its docking port on the orbiting lab. The leak was first detected at 2:15 a.m. IST (00:45 Dec. 15 GMT) as cosmonauts Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitri Petelin were preparing to exit the space station for a 7-hour spacewalk outside the station. The Soyuz spacecraft launched to the space station on Sept. 21 to deliver the two cosmonauts and NASA astronaut Frank Rubio to the space station and was due to return to Earth size months later. "The cause of this leak [is] not known at this time," NASA spokesperson Rob Navias said during live commentary. "Russian specialists are continuing to look at the data and discussing what may have triggered the leak." ரஷ்யாவின் விண்வெளி நிறுவனமான ரோஸ்கோஸ்மோஸ் இன்று சர்வதேச விண்வெளி நிலையத்தில் இரண்டு விண்வெளி ...

ISRO is developing a new Rocket to replace PSLV - in English & தமிழ்

Image
English Tamil The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is developing a rocket named Next Generation Launch Vehicle (NGLV) to replace its ageing workhorse the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) that was developed in the 1980s. This was announced by ISRO chairman S Somanath at a press conference on the sidelines of the 'Engineers Conclave 2022' at the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) at Valiyamala here on Thursday.  "PSLV was developed in the 1980s and it does not serve the needs of the 2020s. There needs to be an evolution," Somanath said. While refusing to give an exact time frame for retiring PSLV, he said that ISRO will stop using the rocket after completing the remaining launches approved by the government. Asked specifically about propulsion technology to be used in the NGLV, Somanath said it will use 'semi-cryogenic' technology which is both efficient and cost-effective. He hinted that the new rocket could also be 'reusable...

NASA requests proposals for 2nd moon lander for Artemis astronauts (English & தமிழ்)

English Tamil x NASA is asking private industry to come up with ideas for another astronaut moon lander.  Concept Art - Future Artemis Missions The space agency is working to establish a long-term human presence on and around the moon by the end of the 2020s, via a program called Artemis. In 2021, NASA announced that it had selected SpaceX's Starship as the lander for the program's first crewed surface mission, Artemis 3, which is scheduled to touch down near the lunar south pole in 2025 or 2026.  In March of this year, agency officials said that they planned to encourage the development of a second crewed lander for Artemis, to provide redundancy and resilience for the program. That plan became official today (Sept. 16), when NASA issued a call for proposals from private companies.  "Work done under this solicitation, in addition to current lander development and studies taking place, will help build the foundation for long-term deep space exploration," Lisa W...
